Schnappi.... my big girl

Recently as i watched big girl train, i'm very impressed at how training has made her a better dog and companion.

From a pup that knows nothing to the achievements she made so far, it really touched me to see the chemistry between the dad and daughter... how well they work together to accomplish every task or tackle every new thing learned.

Big girl started learning "heel-in-motion" and "send away" about 2 weeks ago, and i see that the pair is a step closer to the Open category for the trials. Anyway, Bb has decided to enter big girl in Open this time as an exposure and hopefully she can make it thru and enjoy the trial day as she usually does (then lie flat the next day... haha!!). We promised to bring her out to some pet cafes after the trial as a form of reward and encouragement...

Schnappi... 加油!! 加油!! 加油!!

Mind Games That Dogs Play With Humans

Real funny.... needs lotsa EQ to handle your beloved dogs too!!

****************************

After your humans give you a bath, DON'T LET THEM TOWEL DRY YOU! Instead, run to their bed, jump up and dry yourself off on the sheets. This is especially good if it's right before your humans' bedtime.

Act like a convicted criminal. When the humans come home, put your ears back, tail between your legs, chin down, and act as if you have done something really bad. Then, watch as the humans frantically search the house for the damage they think you have caused. (Note: This only works when you have done absolutely nothing wrong.)

Let the humans teach you a brand new trick. Learn it perfectly. When the humans try to demonstrate it to someone else, stare blankly back at the humans. Pretend you have no idea what they're talking about.

Make your humans be patient. When you go outside to go 'pee', sniff around the entire yard as your humans wait. Act as if the spot you choose to go pee will ultimately decide the fate of the earth.

Draw attention to the human. When out for a walk, always pick the busiest, most visible spot to go 'poo'. Take your time and make sure everyone watches. This works particularly well if your humans have forgotten to bring a plastic bag.

When out for a walk, alternate between choking and coughing every time a strange human walks by.

Make your own rules. Don't always bring back the stick when playing fetch with the humans. Make them go and chase it once in a while.

Hide from your humans. When your humans come home, don't greet them at the door. Instead, hide from them, and make them think something terrible has happened to you. (Don't reappear until one of your human is panic-stricken and close to tears).

When your human calls you to come back in, always take your time. Walk as slowly as possible back to the door.

Wake up twenty minutes before the alarm clock is set to go off and make the humans take you out for your morning pee. As soon as you get back inside, fall asleep. (Humans can rarely fall back asleep after going outside, so this will drive them nuts!)

Micole's Diary Part 4: 3 cheers for MuMmY!!

I've to give some credits to my Mummy last Saturday leh... she never showered a dog in her entire life, but she actually took a challenge to pom me when Daddy's not around!!

Ahem, as u know lar, me not so easy to handle one lor... refer to my diary part 1 and u'll know... hehe.. i would say mummy's 1st attempt not too bad lar (p/s: she's pointing a gun at me now so i've not choice but to say she's not bad :P)... at least she knows that she needs to put shampoo and rinse me clean clean... haha!!

After the "water ceremony", came the drying part... mummy took out her weapon -- the hair dryer, and started to get me dry... then jie-jie started to bark... jealous :P... An hour later, i smell nice nice and started to run around... I would say this was a rather personal experience with mummy and i'm looking forward to the next... (p/s: the gun is still pointing at me :P)

Micole's Diary Part 1~~~

Today is the 1st time Daddy and Mummy sent me for grooming... Daddy dropped me off at PLC Vivo for the jie-jie there to pom pom me... to see if can make me clean and white... mummy says i'm like "wu zou mao"...
Mummy dropped by during my grooming session with Aunties Angeline and Apple... me saw them thru the big glass window when the jie-jie was trying to trim my hair... then they went off to the Coffee Bean to have their java while waiting for me...
Mummy picked me up at 6pm... the jie-jie complained to mummy say i noti lor... difficult to cut my hair... hee... After i'm done, me went with Mummy and the 2 aunties to get some food to go to Auntie Angeline's house... Auntie Angeline loves me (erm, i mean love doggies very much) but Uncle Calvin is scared of dogs... so NO DOGS in the house... Sad Auntie Angel...

Taking a nap while waiting for Mummy and Aunties to finish dinner~~

A Pet's Love *** Soooo SwEEt ***

A companion, a pal,
A very best friend.
Someone to trust,
To love 'til the end.
Someone to trust,
When feeling blue.
Always a smile,
T'always greet you.
Always a smile,
To dry up your tears.
A person to be there,
To quiet your fears.
A person to be there,
When lonely or sad.
Loving regardless,
If hating or mad.
Loving regardless,
If caring or cruel.
No matter what,
Genius or fool.
No matter what,
They stand by you.
Who is this person,
Have you a clue?
Who is this person?
I'll tell you who.
This is your pet,
That loves through 'n through.

A Dog's Bill Of Rights Part II

  • We have the right to be full members of your family. We thrive on social interaction, praise, and love.

  • We have the right to stimulation. We need new games, new toys, new experiences, and new smells to be happy.

  • We have the right to regular exercise. Without it, we could become hyper, sluggish...or fat.

  • We have the right to have fun. We enjoy acting like clowns now and then; don't expect us to be predictable all the time.

  • We have the right to quality health care. Please stay good friends with our vet!

  • We have the right to a good diet. Like some people, we don't know what's best for us. We depend on you.

  • We have the right not to be rejected because of your expectations that we be great show dogs or show cats, watchdogs, hunters, or baby-sitters.

  • We have the right to receive proper training. Otherwise, our good relationship could be marred by confusion and strife - and we could become dangerous to ourselves and others.

  • We have the right to guidance and correction based on understanding and compassion, rather than abuse.

  • We have the right to live with dignity... and to die with dignity when the time comes.

A Dog's Bill of Rights Part I

  • I have the right to give and receive unconditional love.

  • I have the right to a life that is beyond mere survival.

  • I have the right to be trained so I do not become the prisoner of my own misbehavior.

  • I have the right to adequate food and medical care.

  • I have the right to fresh air and green grass.

  • I have the right to socialize with people and dogs outside my family.

  • I have the right to have my needs and wants respected.

  • I have the right to a special time with my people.

  • I have the right to only be bred responsibly if at all.

  • I have the right to be foolish and silly, and to make my person laugh.

  • I have the right to be forgiven.

  • I have the right to die with dignity.

  • I have the right to be remembered well.

Dog Property Laws **haha.. no wonder**

If I like it, it's mine.

If it's in my mouth, it's mine.

If I can take it from you, it's mine.

If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.

If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.

If I'm chewing something up, all the pieces are mine.

If it just looks like mine, it's mine.

If I saw it first, it's mine.

If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.

If it's broken, it's yours.

Basic Rules For Dogs ***Cute***

Barking:
Because you are a dog, you are expected to bark. So bark--a lot. Your owners will be very happy to hear you protecting their house. Especially late at night while they are sleeping safely in their beds. There is no more secure feeling for a human than to keep waking up in the middle of the night and hearing your protective bark, bark, bark...

Chasing Cats:
When chasing cats, make sure you never--quite--catch them. It spoils all the fun.Chewing: Make a contribution to the fashion industry; eat a shoe.
Couches: It is perfectly permissible to lie on the new couch after all your humans have gone to bed.

Dining Etiquette:
Always sit under the table at dinner, especially when there are guests, so you can clean up any food that falls on the floor. It's also a good time to practice your sniffing.

Doors:
The area directly in front of a door is always reserved for the family dog to sleep.

Going for Walks:
Rules of the road - When out for a walk with your master or mistress, never go to the bathroom on your own lawn.

Housebreaking:
Housebreaking is very important to humans, so break as much of the house as possible.

Holes:
Rather than digging a big hole in the middle of the yard and upsetting your human, dig a lot of smaller holes all over the yard so they won't notice. If you arrange a little pile of dirt on one side of each hole, maybe they'll think it's gophers. There are never enough holes in the ground. Strive daily to do your part to help correct this problem.

Licking:
Always take a big drink from your water dish immediately before licking your human. Humans prefer clean tongues. Be ready to fetch your human a towel.

Newspapers:
If you have to go to the bathroom while playing in the front yard, always use the newspaper that's placed in the driveway every morning for that purpose.

Playing:
If you lose your footing while chasing a ball or stick, use the flower bed to absorb your fall so you don't injure yourself.

The Art of Sniffing:
Humans like to be sniffed. Everywhere. It is your duty, as the family dog, to accommodate them.

Visitors:
Quickly determine which guest is afraid of dogs. Charge across the room, barking loudly and leap playfully on this person. If the human falls down on the floor and starts crying, lick its face and growl gently to show your concern.

Things We Can Learn From A Dog

There are simple things in life that we always overlooked... found this piece that reminded me that life is short... so... LIVE IT!!

  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
  • Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
  • Take naps and stretch before rising.
  • Run, romp, and play daily.
  • Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
  • Be loyal.
  • Never pretend to be something you are not.
  • If what you want what lies buried, dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  • Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
  • When you are happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  • No matter how often you are scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and make friends.
  • Bond with your pack.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

A DOG'S PRAYER

Recently i've been browsing the web on dog poems... came across some really humourous and touching ones... this one below brought a little wetness to my eyes... suddenly i remember lil Mic's watery eyes... ... ...

--- Poem by Beth Norman Harris ---

Treat me kindly , my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for although I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have be do. Speak to me often, for your voice is world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food sothat I may stay well to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And beloved master, should the Great Mastersee fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my fate was every safest in your hands.

Before I was a Dog Mom...

Found this poem while browsing... touched my heart~~~

Before I was a Dog Mom: I made and ate hot meals unmolested;I had unstained, unfurred clothes;I had quiet conversations on the phone, even if the doorbell rang.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got to bed... or if I could get into my bed.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I cleaned my house everyday,I never tripped over toys, stuffies, chewies, or invited the neighbor's dog over to play.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I didn't worry if my plants, cleansers, plastic bags, toilet paper, soap or deodorant were poisonous or dangerous.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I had never been peed on, pooped on, drooled on, chewed on, or pinched by puppy teeth.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I had complete control of my thoughts,my body and my mind. I slept all night without sharing the coversor pillow.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I never looked into big, soulful eyes and cried. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop a hurt. I never knew something so furry andfour-legged could affect my heart so deeply.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I had never held a sleeping puppy just because I couldn't put it down. I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was well. I didn't know how warm it feels inside to feed a hungry puppy. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment,or the satisfaction of being A Dog Mom

Ten Commandments for Dog Owners

Came across these while i was browsing the web... very interesting~~~

1. My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you take me into your home.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me - it's crucial to my well-being.
4. Don't be angry at me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entertainment and your friends. I only have you.
5. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your tone.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Remember, before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand but I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I am not getting the right food or have been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
9. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it," or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there.

Remember, I love you.

Potty woes

It's really not an easy task to potty-trained a dog... esp a small puppy. last time when Schnap was still young, we could still "wack" her butt if she loos out of the assigned area... but this lil Micole is too small (in size and age) to "wack" liao... all i can do now is to spank her tiny butt and stare at her and scream "noti ger!!!"... ***haizzz*** then she will use her tearful eyes to look at me trying to make me guilty... but hor, she didn't realise that mummy can be hard-hearted too if TLC doesn't help... hee... see who win lor!!

Mic is really noti... she loos as and where she happy (tho i understand it's dog nature but...!!!)... she's still young, so we couldn't bear to penalise her too much in case she's traumatized, thinking we are bad daddy and mummy... ***sob sob*** she's very clever leh... takes advantage of our weakness and loos again after we clean up... ***arghhhh*** and hor... if she not happy because we lock her in (the pet carrier) to clean the floor or playpen... she will bark at us lor... ***ki si ah***

Every time she's noti, i'll scold her and walk away... also telling Schnappi to ignore her... big baobei knows i'm scolding the sister so will guai guai lie at one corner to see show... ***smart hor***

Anyway we will be sending her for grooming this weekend... hope she'll be back nice nice... and she can pom pom liao... we shall have a water-fight with her at least once a week... on top of the daily "polishing"... hee~~~

1st time ever.. Schnappi went grooming!!

One of the reasons i guess when bb decided to get Schnappi was because huskies need minimal grooming... so for the past 2 years since we gotten her, we've never sent her for grooming before... the father and daughter will have the water fight around once a month on top of the daily "dry-cleaning".

Hence today we sent her in for a full groom and left her in the hands of the groomer... after 2 hours when we see her, she seemed happy with the job done... haha!! she walked out from the grooming room looking light-hearted and smelled nice nice... then i noticed something funny... big baobei's tail tip became rounded!! guess because she's got this "chase-her-own-tail" habit, her tail tip became sparse and ugly... now it's rounded but quite cute... the groomer said he seems to see "snow" while grooming her... cos Schnappi got lotsa hair flyng all over him... hahahaha!!! winter sonata??

After grooming, we dropped by PLC at Vivo and picked up some stuff from Daiso before reaching home to find that the small baobei made a mess in her playpen and dirtied herself. haizz... ki si ah... still can't shower her so can only do what we could to make her clean lor... likely to send her for grooming this weekend after the 10-day period... she's so stinko....

Micole's 3rd jab

Brought lil Mic for her 3rd jab today... she weighed a mere 1.2kg and we can't help laughing when we saw the weight... perhaps we're used to see bigger numbers since Schnappi was bigger... :D
Anyway the doc said she's well and asked if her appetite is good... haha!! of coz man, this lil girl gobbles down her food in a spilt sec.. almost in par wif the big sis... :)
After seeing doc, went Happy Daze for early dinner... Happy Schnappi had a Doggie Set Meal... and u shd see how her eyes gleamed when she saw the lamb meat balls... before i can hv a 2nd look... IT'S GONE!!! so did the dog biscuits and down went the banana muffin in one bite!!! Ppl might be thinking we starved her for days... hahahaha!!!
Alright... Schnappi... work hard for the next trial... then daddy n mummy bring u out for more food again k? ***Promise*** ;P
